In the Shadow of the Titans: Embracing the Pride and Spirit of Titans Fans

What it Means to be a Tennessee Titans Super Fan

Titan up, Nashville! Fans of the Tennessee Titans are known for their passion, intensity and two-tone blue outfits on game day. Despite being one of the NFL’s youngest franchises, Titans fans have established themselves as one of the most dedicated groups in the league.

Since the team landed in Tennessee, Nashville resident David Cline has made sure he’s always gotten tickets. For years, Cline has been the first to line up outside the stadium to buy tickets. Sometimes he’s alone, the first fan to enter the fray, while other years he has been joined by fellow Titans faithful. But two essential truths remain: Cline’s endless passion for his team, and plans to maintain his ritual long into his twilight years. That’s commitment of titanic proportions.

Off the field, Nashville greatly supports the Titans. The Tennessee Titans Foundation hosts a 5K annually. Titans fans will travel as far as London to support their team in the 2023 regular season. On October 15, Tennessee will face the Baltimore Ravens at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Titans fans embrace game day by bringing a southern hospitality experience to the forefront. Nestled upon the banks of the Cumberland River, Nissan Stadium is located in the heart of downtown Nashville. If they aren’t tailgating at Nissan Stadium, Titans fans are at official Titans Gameday Hangouts, which are various spots scattered across downtown Nashville.

The official TitanUp Tailgate is located on the stadium grounds between Lot K and Lot J. It features live music, tailgate games, photo booths and alcohol for sale. In 2023, the franchise is debuting throwback uniforms that nod to the franchise’s former name, the Houston Oilers. Expect to see a run of powder blue throwback jerseys and shirts going forward.

Memorable Moments in Tennessee Titans Fandom

On January 8, 2000, the Tennessee Titans pulled off one of the most improbable comebacks in NFL history. During the AFC Wild Card game that the Titans hosted, the Buffalo Bills took the lead 16-15 with 16 seconds left in the game. On the ensuing kickoff, Titans tight end Frank Wycheck caught the ball and seemingly had nowhere to go. That’s when he threw a lateral pass across the length of the field to wide receiver Kevin Dyson. Dyson caught the ball and ran it 75 yards as time expired to score the game-winning touchdown.

The Titans went on to win two more playoff games that postseason en route to their only Super Bowl appearance in franchise history.
