Chicago Blackhawks® vs. Minnesota Wild® Series History
The Chicago Blackhawks® and Minnesota Wild® have a unique rivalry. Both teams are in the Central Division of the Western Conference and both teams share a similar geographical location. The history behind the Blackhawks and Wild rivalry goes beyond the development of the Wild. Chicago and Minnesota have always been rivals. Whether it be the Chicago Bears vs. the Minnesota Vikings or the Chicago White Sox vs. the Minnesota Twins, Chicago and Minnesota have never gotten along. Having crossed paths during the 2000s, the rivalry between the Chicago Blackhawks® and Minnesota Wild® didn’t really start until the 2010s.
When it comes to the history between the Chicago Blackhawks® and the Minnesota Wild®, it really boils down to three words: Stanley Cup® Playoffs. These two teams went head-to-head in the first round of the 2013 playoffs, with the Blackhawks winning 4-1, again in the 2014 playoffs where the Blackhawks defeated the Wild in the Conference Semifinals 4-2, and for the third time in 2015 when the Blackhawks steamrolled the Wild 4-0 in the Conference Semifinals. Interestingly enough, the regular season has been anything but a Blackhawks domination, with the Wild having a winning record of 47-29-1-4 against the Blackhawks. This rivalry stems from the back and forth between the Blackhawks fans and Wild fans; the age-old argument of overall wins vs. postseason wins. The Blackhawks have a destructive record of 12-3 in postseason wins.
Along with wins and losses, the 2010 trade between Nick Leddy to Chicago for Cam Barker to Minnesota fueled the rivalry between the Blackhawks and the Wild. Leddy played for the Blackhawks for years and was very successful, helping the Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup® in 2013 while Barker didn’t pan out and only played one year for the Wild.
In addition to a heated playoff history, the Chicago Blackhawks® and Minnesota Wild® faced off in the 2016 NHL Stadium Series™, with Minnesota besting Chicago 6 – 1.
