Miami Dolphins vs. New York Jets History
Both the Jets and the Dolphins were established in the 1960s in the American Football League. When the AFL merged with the NFL in 1970, both franchises joined the AFC East and they’ve played twice a year since then. The Jets won the first eight games in a row against Miami from 1966–1969 by an average margin of 15.9 points per game.
During the ’70s, the Dolphins went on a dominant run behind hall of fame running backs Larry Csonka and Jim Kiick, and quarterback Bob Griese. From 1971 through 1973, the Dolphins won three straight Super Bowl championships and won five out of six games against the Jets. Overall, Miami won 14 out of 20 games against New York during the decade.
From 1980 through 2009, the series remained extremely close, with the Dolphins winning 28 games to the Jets 32 wins (with one tie). Since 2020, Miami has won five out of the last six games against the Jets behind their balanced offensive attack.
Heading into the 2023 season, the Jets acquired future hall-of-fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers, making the team one of the favorites to win the AFC East.
