Anaheim Ducks® vs. Los Angeles Kings® Freeway Face-Off History
The Anaheim Ducks® and Los Angeles Kings® have been rivals since the Ducks entered the NHL® in 1993. These two teams are part of the NHL®’s Western Conference Pacific Division and are both located off Interstate 5 in Southern California, leading the Ducks and Kings to maintain a constant territorial dispute. Since the home ice for both teams are located less than 35 miles away from each other, Kings fans felt their fanbase was pulled apart during the Ducks’ induction into the NHL®. Their constant battles have been named the “Freeway Face-Off.” This name was decided on by the 12,000 fans who voted on the Fox Sports Net Poll in 2007. The name “Freeway Face-Off” was inspired by the “Freeway Series” between the MLB rivals Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels.
