Buffalo Bills vs. Kansas City Chiefs History
Despite being in different divisions within the AFC, the Chiefs and Bills have played five times between October 2020 and 2022, with Kansas City winning three games against Buffalo, including both postseason games.
In the 2020 AFC Championship game, Kansas City came from a nine point deficit in the first quarter to score 21 straight points and come out on top, 38-24. The 2021 AFC Divisional playoff game is one of the most notable playoff games in recent NFL history. The game featured four lead changes in the final two minutes, and included 25 points scored. It is simply referred to as “13 Seconds” because of the Chiefs’ miraculous come from behind final drive. It was also the first game in the Super Bowl era to feature two quarterbacks with more than 300 passing yards, 3 or more pass TDs, 0 INT and more than 60 rush yards. Bills quarterback Josh Allen scored the go-ahead touchdown to Gabe Davis with 13 seconds remaining (marking Davis’ fourth receiving touchdown, an NFL postseason record).
However, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs drove 44 yards on three plays to score a game-tying field goal as time expired. The Chiefs then marched down the field in overtime to score the game-winning touchdown to advance to the championship game.
Where Do the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills Play?
The Chiefs have called GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri their home since August 1972. The fans at Arrowhead are potentially the loudest in the NFL, and the home-field advantage they create has been called the best in professional sports. The stadium took roughly four years to build and cost an estimated $43 million.
The Buffalo Bills play at Highmark Stadium in downtown Buffalo, New York. Formerly called Ralph Wilson Stadium, and known commonly as “The Ralph” even to this day, the Bills have a distinct home field advantage as well, but for entirely different reasons. Because the NFL playoffs are in December, January and February, the Bills have hosted a number of dramatic snow and ice games at Highmark Stadium through the years, and it never deters the Bills Mafia. Buffalo pours 71,608 fans into the stadium year-round regardless of the weather.
