Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Indianapolis Colts History
The Jacksonville Jaguars are one of the newest teams in the NFL, announced as part of the 1995 NFL expansion, which also added the Carolina Panthers. The Jaguars started in the AFC Central, but were moved to the AFC South in 2002 as part of the NFL realignment. The 2002 realignment put the Colts and Jaguars in the same division.
The Colts won the first five games in the rivalry’s history, and the first Jaguars win came in 2003 for a 28-23 win. The ’00s saw the Colts as one of the most dominant franchises in the NFL behind quarterback Peyton Manning, but the Jaguars remained competitive in the series. The longest winning streak for the Jaguars came from 2011 to 2012 where they won three-straight games. The Colts would answer with a six-game winning streak from 2012 to 2015.
In the late 2010s, the two teams saw a reset with the retirement of Colts quarterback, Andrew Luck. The Jaguars found new success behind quarterback Blake Bortles, who led them to an AFC Championship appearance in 2017. The success was short-lived, as the Jaguars hit the reset button and landed the number one overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, which they used to take quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
