Isleta Amphitheater History
The Isleta Amphitheater opened in 2000 as the Mesa del Sol Amphitheater. Over the years, New Mexico’s largest outdoor venue has also been ABQ Journal Pavilion and simply The Pavilion. With its lawn seating expansion in 2009, the sweeping venue has a total capacity of 15,000. Less than 20 minutes from downtown Albuquerque, Isleta Amphitheater’s shows often start in time to catch the gorgeously multicolored sunset skies. Just look for the guitar sculpture marking the entrance, and you’ll know you’ve arrived.
Isleta Amphitheater Performers
From its first days as the Mesa del Sol Amphitheater, Isleta Amphitheater has hosted the best large-scale concerts in Albuquerque. Steely Dan, Bob Dylan, Britney Spears and Megadeth all graced the stage in the first year. Shows at Isleta have included country duo Florida Georgia Line, legendary rockers Kiss, the guitar stylings of John Mayer, alternative titans Green Day, hip-hop and R&B stars like Mary J. Blige, Nas and Wiz Khalifa, and the great Janet Jackson. Isleta has also hosted festivals like the heavy metal Mayhem Fest and the Country Megaticket tour.
Planning Your Visit to Isleta Amphitheater
General parking is typically free with a ticket purchase, but you’ll want to arrive early. Concession stands throughout Isleta offer burgers, snacks and the buzzy Questlove’s Cheesesteak. If you’re looking for a sit-down meal before or after the show, your best bet is to explore the options closer to downtown. Bars are located throughout the venue, and the designated driver program provides free fountain drinks to your group’s DD.
